January 2021 has seen the pouring of the first track in Eat street between the Lennox Bridge and Phillip Street.

Construction crews are working a combined 8,500 hours a day/night and 166m of track has been installed.

Fun fact: Construction crews will use aluminothermic welding to fuse sections of rail. The welding process uses a combustible powder with metals mixed in that heats up the ends of both rails. The powder forms a molten metal that is shaped by a mould to form the shape of the rails. How about that for science!

Sydney University has now entered into a framework agreement with the NSW Government to deliver a multi-disciplinary University within the Westmead Health and Innovation District.

On the back of this, the NSW Government has now released the ‘Draft Westmead Place Strategy’ to guide local councils, State agencies and the private sector on land use planning for Westmead.
